It's thumbs down for 'English Lite' (VCAA caves to populist pressure)

It's a shame the VCAA didn't have the guts and gumption to defend the proposed study design - in particular the innane and anti-intellectual arguments about 'English Lite'. They've done a backflip and caved to the pressure. Let's see what happens from here - I'm sure it's not the last we'll hear of it.

Hey Scott,
What is "English Lite"? Could you be a little more detailed, please.
I would really like to hear your views.

Scott,
I agree. I wonder what will happen to the opportunities that were opened up by the draft study design now? Will we go back to the way it was before?

Who ARE these people? Why are they neglecting to mention that Literature is now offered as an alternative to English? Why can't they see that reducing breadth means increasing depth? How can VCAA be so useless? Have any of the people there actually tried to teach English in the last 25 years??????
