Teacher incentive pay is really a nice idea that was not given much thought. In reality what happens is that teachers are striving for the extra incentive pay and therefore only teach the test to their students. In the long run everyone loses. The students lose because they only learn the test and the test stratigies. The teachers lose because the next year when they get these students that can pass the test and nothing else then they have to teach that student what he/she is missing in order to teach the test for the next year incentive pay. Bad idea!

Hi Alexes, I agree, wholeheartedly. The proposals for merit pay in this country are ill conceived and politically motivated, but then again what government proposals arn't?
